SA Lottery Payouts — FAQs

Every figure is taken from verified official draw results published by the South African National Lottery (Ithuba) and recorded in our results database. Each game's payout page shows the full division table for the latest draw plus historical averages computed from our archive — nothing is estimated or invented.

Daily Lotto — it draws every night and its ~1-in-8 any-prize odds are the friendliest in the portfolio, though its shared pari-mutuel prizes are the smallest. PowerBall sits at the other extreme: the rarest wins and the largest jackpots (record R232 million). The Lotto family sits between, with the bonus ball adding upgrade divisions.

Because each game pays from its own pool funded by its own ticket sales. The main Lotto, Plus 1 and Plus 2 run identical divisions at identical odds, but the main game's bigger pool typically produces bigger payouts, with Plus 2's smallest pool producing the smallest — and swingiest — amounts. The same logic applies to PowerBall versus PowerBall Plus.

No — all National Lottery prizes are paid tax-free, across every game and division, with nothing withheld. Returns the money earns afterwards (interest, investments) are taxed normally. Prizes must be claimed within 365 days of the draw, and you must be 18 or older to play.

Use our free ticket checker to compare your numbers against any verified draw — it handles multi-line tickets (main + Plus games) in one pass. The most commonly forfeited prizes are add-on lines (Plus 1, Plus 2, PowerBall Plus) on tickets whose main line blanked, so always check every line.

If no ticket wins Division 1, that pool rolls over into the game's next draw — building the headline jackpots. If multiple tickets win, the pool is split equally between them. Daily Lotto is the exception in behaviour: its jackpot is won most nights and shared between however many players match all five numbers.
